Innovation on Display at Austmine

The Australian mining industry is regarded as world-leading in areas like worker safety, technological adoption and improving efficiency – all aspects of the workplace which Tait Communications seeks to enable and support with its critical communications devices and solutions.

Tait recently took part in an Ausmine Mining Innovation Roadshow event, leading a panel discussion about making technology available to all mines. The event was successful, with a very strong turnout from both miners and the many organisations which supply and service them.

Now in its 30th year, Austmine is the industry body representing the Australian mining equipment, technology and services sector. It aims to ensure the sector maintains its best-in-world standing and to promote the value of the industry in people’s lives.

Tait’s Asia Pacific business has a strong focus on engagement with the minerals and extractive industries markets, supporting and attending events like this Austmine roadshow and through regular customer visits, accompanying local dealers.

The business-development effort receives good support from Tait’s New Zealand-based Product Management team. Attending the recent Austmine roadshow, alongside Australia Channel Manager Con Costi, were Product Managers Dion Stevenson (Unified Solutions), Maddy Nag (Management Applications) and Thommy Jerneskog (Software as a Service).

The roadshow’s overall theme was Harnessing Intelligence: Drivers of Social Value. The Tait-led group discussion was facilitated by Thommy Jerneskog.

“Innovation and technological change sometimes are difficult for smaller and mid-tier miners to adopt, whether because of complexity or cost, but many of these improvements are the kinds of change that help improve both the industry and how it’s valued by the public. How to facilitate transfer of these improvements across the industry is an interesting question and it led to a good discussion.”

Following the 2 June roadshow event in Brisbane, the product management team members took part in visits with partner technology suppliers and mining customers.
