Tait Helps Science-Support Organization Reach More Schools

Tait is committed to help foster our future innovators and researchers. Science-support organization House of Science is extending its ground-breaking work into more schools in New Zealand, and Tait is proud to support this initiative.

The Tait Foundation, majority owner of Tait Communications, supports several educational programs aimed at pupils of various ages. A common aim of these initiatives is to stimulate children’s interest in ‘STEM’ subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) with the hope they will go on to pursue careers in disciplines like engineering, design and technology.

“If we are to have a pipeline of scientifically literate people who are to be our future innovators and researchers, we must ignite their interest at a young age.”

House of Science: Fostering Future Scientists

House of Science provides schools with quality science resources and supports teachers’ professional development. Its aim is to promote positive engagement with science in all its forms.

At present, the organization works with more than 300 schools in New Zealand’s North Island, providing more than 200 resource kits a week. A South Island branch, based in Christchurch, launches on Wednesday 24th February 2021.

House of Science founder Chris Duggan says research shows that children decide by age 10 the kinds of careers they will not pursue after school.

“So, if we are to have a pipeline of scientifically literate people who are to be our future innovators and researchers, we must ignite their interest at a young age,” Chris says. “We are extremely pleased to have Tait’s support as we start this first South Island branch.”

The Tait Foundation

The Tait Foundation, the majority owner of Tait Communications, is a charitable organization which uses surpluses generated by the commercial business to support education.

It is a major benefactor of the University of Canterbury and its support for younger pupils includes EVolocity (a program for high school age pupils using electric vehicle-development to raise interests in design, engineering, software development and testing) and Imagination Station, a science and technology program based on LEGO for pre-school and primary school-aged children.

The Tait Campus is hosting the launch of the Christchurch House of Science program on the 24th of February, 2021.
