Tait Supports Fire Services at Auckland Sky Tower Stair Challenge

Fire Fighters- Tait - Skycity Auckland EventOn 23 May 2015, undeterred by driving rain and chilling Auckland temperatures, a team of Tait Tough employees showcased their support for fire services and Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) at the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge.

Now in its 11th year, the Stair Challenge invites firefighters from around the world to raise funds and awareness for LBC by racing up 51 floors (all 1,103 steps) of the Sky Tower wearing full firefighting kit weighing 25kg.

LBC is New Zealand’s national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers like leukaemia and related blood conditions.

This year, for the first time in the event’s history, more than NZ$1,000,000 was raised with every cent going directly towards helping the six New Zealanders a day diagnosed with a blood cancer or related condition. Tait is proud to stand alongside LBC in this event, which provides much needed funds for family education and support services such as emergency assistance and counseling.

As a major sponsor of the event, Tait was on site supporting competitors and demonstrating the technologies we provide to keep firefighters safe. Firefighters from the Rolleston Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Glenbrook Industrial Brigade wore Tait BioLink during their climbs, enabling supporters and family members to have real time visibility of vital information such as body temperature, heart rate, and orientation.

In the field, BioLink is a physiological monitoring solution that uses the P25 networks to give incident commanders real time visibility of responder well being and location, whether they’re involved in incidents or training exercises.

Tait employee Dean Mischewski participated in the event as part of Squad 20 – an exclusive non-firefighter group consisting of LBC partners, celebrities, and media personalities. Dean raised over $4300 for LBC and completed his challenge in a staggering 11 minutes and 15 seconds, the fastest time in Squad 20 – truly a Tait Tough effort, demonstrating a resilient core!

For over four decades, Tait has supported emergency workers and first responders with technology designed to help them do their jobs safely and effectively. Supporting the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge demonstrates in a tangible way how we continue to stand behind the heroes who continually put their lives at risk.

In addition to the New Zealand Fire Service, Tait also provides communications solutions in Australia to the Country Fire Service of South Australia, Country Fire Authority of Victoria, and the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia.

Tait also has numerous fire service customers in North America, including Yellowknife, Canada; Howell County, Missouri; Weymouth Fire, Massachusetts; and Otsego County, New York.
